Description

A unique plywood made of bamboo, particularly strong and an environmentally friendly alternative to common wood. Caramel-colored, particularly flat and 100% FSC-certified.

Properties

Bamboo plywood is stronger than side-pressed bamboo and offers an environmentally friendly alternative to wood plywood. Bamboo as plywood is unique: the cross-glued layers provide extra strength in both directions. The low moisture content in this material prevents warping. It has a warm caramel color, with cut edges turning dark brown and engravings taking on a medium-brown hue. Bamboo plywood is excellent for laser cutting.

Side-pressed bamboo vs. plywood

Side-pressed bamboo consists of compressed bamboo strips and is known for its beautiful grain, but breaks faster due to its long fibers. Plywood bamboo is a stronger alternative thanks to its cross-glued layers, which make the boards sturdier in all directions. Unlike side-pressed bamboo, bamboo plywood is suitable for creating designs with thin or fragile parts.

Environmentally friendly alternative

This material is 100% FSC-certified and comes from sustainably managed bamboo forests. Although bamboo is a grass species, it is often used as wood. Thanks to its rapid growth and low water consumption, bamboo production has a lower environmental impact than most types of wood, making it an excellent eco-friendly alternative to traditional wood.

Color

This material gets its distinctive caramel color from a caramelization process in which it is heated. During this process, the sugars in the bamboo emerge, which increases both strength and stability, and gives it a warm, deep hue.

Applications

Bamboo plywood is used for interior construction, furniture, enclosures, boxes, key chains, model making and other custom durable designs. The thin sheets are flexible but do not break easily. 0.5mm bamboo has a similar feel to stiff paper and is particularly bendable. It can be used as a laminate or as a curved element, for example, in lamps.

Bamboo panels of 3 mm and 5 mm are stronger than most plywood of the same thickness. They are used in interior construction for simple structures, enclosures and decorative elements, such as laser-cut logos or wall-mounted city maps.
