Great news: you can now laser cut up to 240 x 120 cm at Snijlab. That's four times larger than before. Our two new large-format machines, the SPOTmaxis, are now fully operational. This significantly expands our capabilities. What does this mean for you as a designer or engineer? How big is large format laser cutting?
SPOTmaxi 10 has a working range as large as a furniture panel
With the new large-format laser cutters, we can cut sheets measuring 240 x 120 cm . This is a standard sheet size in construction, also known as furniture panels. This is four times larger than what we offered previously. Besides larger sheets, these machines can also cut thicker sheets, such as 8 mm and 10 mm thick acrylic. Ideal for outdoor lettering, for example, to make letters stronger and longer-lasting. They can also cut Linde plywood up to 18 mm and POM up to 8 mm thick.
We start with a core selection of large-format materials and expand later.

Why large format?

Until now, we've been cutting parts up to 120 x 60 cm. That's plenty big enough for many applications. Making the transition to large format required a lot of work, including a move to a larger location. Why did we decide to take this step now? This choice stems from three factors: customer demand, efficiency, and reliability.
We build long-term relationships with many clients; some for almost 15 years. We're proud of these partnerships and asked how we could serve them even better. A clear desire emerged: to be able to order large-format parts from us in addition to small and medium-sized orders. Until now, they had to go elsewhere for large parts, but soon that will no longer be necessary.
We also saw an opportunity to work more efficiently internally. Waste material is often a hidden cost. With larger sheets, we can nest components much more intelligently, resulting in less material waste and making even medium-sized designs more cost-effective.
Reliability is essential in our production process. Even during peak periods, we insist on meeting all our delivery times, including urgent orders. This gives you, the customer, clarity and peace of mind. With our new large-format machines, we're expanding our machine capacity, not just for large designs, but for all dimensions. What can you make with large format laser cutting?

The possibilities are endless: we're really looking forward to seeing the innovative designs you'll create. Laser cutting offers complete design freedom on a two-dimensional surface. Here's some inspiration:
- Hoods : functional protection for machines and cabinets, in transparent acrylic.
- Decorative pieces : for theatre, shop windows or events; from backdrops to striking shapes.
- Flightcases : Inlays made of rigid PE foam; even smaller formats become more cost-effective thanks to efficient nesting.
- Furniture : design your own flatpack cabinet or other piece of furniture from 18 mm lime plywood.
- Insulation boards : made of technical plastics or felt.
- Wall panels : a room-wide, undulating wall made of wood with an incised pattern.
- Logos : Have your logo cut from 8mm colored acrylic for a professional and durable result.
- Housings : front plates and mounting panels, for example in matt black acrylic for a professional look.

What kind of machines are the SPOTmaxis?
The laser bridge of SPOTmaxi 10 moves the laser sample over the entire working range and extracts the fumes during laser operation.
The SPOTmaxis are impressive machines: they have a laser output of 300 W, a working area of 2,500 × 1,300 mm, and can cut materials up to 50 mm thick (depending on the material). The laser head is driven more precisely by ball screws instead of the usual timing belts. An ingenious optical system ensures the laser beam remains consistent across the entire work plane, and the focus distance is continuously measured and adjusted during cutting.

The SPOTmaxis were developed specifically for Snijlab. Until now, we've built all our laser cutters ourselves to ensure complete control over quality and reliability, but for this project, we've taken a new approach. The SPOTmaxis are built externally to our specifications, combining our fifteen years of experience with the latest technological advancements in machine building. We handle all maintenance ourselves, ensuring long-term performance.

What sets the SPOTmaxis apart is their precision. Instead of the usual timing belts, the laser heads are driven by ball screws. These are threaded spindles where nuts move smoothly over the thread, guided by small balls. This system operates without backlash, ensuring the head always finds the exact right position, without slippage or deviation.
In addition, the SPOTmaxis feature improved optics. With large-format laser cutting, the laser beam travels a long distance. Normally, this can cause the cutting width to vary: sharp in one corner, but less sharp in the other corners. The SPOTmaxis solve this with two systems:
- The laser path is the same length everywhere within the working range due to an ingenious optical system.
- The focus distance between laser head and material is continuously measured and automatically adjusted.
The result: precision and repeatability, from start to finish of the plate, regardless of the size or thickness of the material.
At Snijlab, quality and reliability are always paramount. Previously, we had to build our own machines to achieve this. Now that machine builders have advanced in technology and expertise, we can precisely define our requirements and have them built externally, without compromise. The SPOTmaxis represent the next step: larger, more powerful, and just as precise as you've come to expect from us.
