PET felt is a sturdy acoustic felt made from polyester fibres, 70% of which is recycled PET. You design the shape, we laser cut it from 9 mm felt. Think of custom acoustic panels, ceiling tiles for suspended ceilings, wall logos, room dividers or complete interlocking structures. Choose PET felt to dampen echo in offices, meeting rooms, classrooms or hospitality settings, and when you want to determine the shape yourself. The felt primarily absorbs sound in the speech range, above 1 kHz. If you mount the panel with spacers, the air gap behind it will contribute, significantly increasing absorption. The panels are stiff enough to interlock without glue. This also allows you to build three-dimensional objects, such as partition walls, lampshades and luminaires.
PET felt absorbs moisture, so it is not suitable for outdoor use or damp environments. If your part needs to be resistant to moisture, consider PE hard foam.
The laser gives PET felt a sharp cut edge with slight melting, even in inside corners. The edge has the same colour as the felt but is slightly darker. The melting makes the cut edge slightly harder and gives it fine ridges. On the underside, this edge is more visible with lighter colours. Protective film or an adhesive layer does not adhere to felt. Fix it with mounting adhesive, screws or spacers. Engraving is also possible, for example for a logo or inscription on the panel.

For a friction-fit joint that holds without adhesive, design the slot 0.8 mm narrower than the material thickness (0.4 mm per side): for example, 8.2 mm in 9 mm felt. At 8.6 mm, the joint still slides with some play; at 9 mm, it will be loose.
For an insert that fits snugly and flush in the sheet, draw it 0.8 mm larger than the cutout (0.4 mm per side): e.g., 30.8 mm in a 30 mm hole. At 0.6 mm larger, it's secure but still removable. At 0.2 mm, it will be loose.
Keep walls and spacing in 9 mm felt at least 3 mm wide. Any narrower and the felt will deform or tear, and the shape will not hold.
The laser removes a narrow strip of material. For intricate details and interlocking components, compensate for this kerf in your design. The value is listed in the specifications.
With cut-out letters, the inner shapes (the space within an 'o', 'a' or 'e') will fall out. Choose a stencil font and keep the bridges at least 0.8 mm wide to ensure they remain intact.
Engravings stay sharp even when small, but for readability, keep text at a minimum of 14 pt. Engrave bold letters as a fill. Engrave thin letters as a line with a single-line font; a standard font will only be outlined when line-engraved.
A large engraved area will have a slightly different texture and shade than the untouched surface. Keep this in mind for logos and areas on visible parts.

We do not have our own measurements for this panel. Comparable 9–12 mm PET felt, when directly mounted, achieves αw 0.20–0.30 (class E/D) and NRC 0.30–0.45. Below 500 Hz, it absorbs little; above 1 kHz, it absorbs well: precisely the speech frequency range where echoes cause disturbance in offices and meeting rooms. With an air gap behind it, the NRC increases to approximately 0.70.
No, a fire rating certificate is not available for this PET felt. If your project requires a fire rating, this material is not suitable.
The edge retains almost the same colour as the surface. On the underside, a slightly melted, somewhat harder edge forms, which is more visible with lighter colours. The cut edge itself has fine ridges.
With mounting adhesive, or with screws, possibly with spacers. Hot glue and plastic adhesive also adhere well; wood glue adheres reasonably. Protective film or a self-adhesive layer will not adhere to felt. Furthermore, using spacers creates a cavity, which approximately doubles the sound absorption.
9 mm PET felt remains flat and self-supporting up to approximately 1 metre. Larger panels will sag: a 2.5 m panel will bend significantly, but won't break or crease.
No. PET felt absorbs moisture, so we do not recommend it for outdoor use or damp environments. Getting it wet occasionally is not a problem, but prolonged moisture is due to mould. Cleaning is rarely necessary: dirt is barely noticeable, and you can remove dust with a brush or, if needed, an all-purpose cleaner.
We cut PET felt in 9 mm as standard. You can supply 12 mm PET felt yourself; 24 mm is too thick to laser cut.
