Matte acrylic offers a high-quality look and feel resembling that of matte glass more than plastic. It lets light through, but is not transparent.

Acrylic is hard, weather-proof and UV-proof. Thanks to the matte surface, this variant is less vulnerable to scratching than most acrylics.

Typical applications: This material lends itself well to products that are used frequently and must retain a good appearance without having to be cleaned. It is often used in decorative applications in the advertising industry, in consumer products and in models. Some examples of different applications include:
-façade advertisements
-product displays
-ornaments
-give-aways
-maquettes
-front panels of machines
-low-load mechanical components

Design: For most applications acrylic is an easy-to-use material with few issues. However, when connecting the material by means of slots or finger joints, it is important to take the thickness tolerance into account. In the design process it is advisable leave sufficient space around any recesses.
Compression joints in acrylic are not advised as the material is sensitive to splitting. Flexible joints such as snap-locks and sninges are perfectly possible with acrylic, but their design must be tight. Testing these features before actual production is a must.

Finishing: Matte translucent acrylic requires no further finishing.

Bonding: It is possible to glue acrylic, but solvent-based adhesives are not recommended for use with laser-cut parts. Acrylic can be easily attached or joined with double-sided adhesive film.

Appearance: Acrylic is particularly well suited for laser-cutting and the process leaves few traces. The cut edge becomes shiny and clear with no discolouration. As there is virtually no melting of the cut edge it is possible to cut fine details.
Surface engraving of matte acrylic results in a white matte engraving. The protective film is removed before surface engraving, such that light smoke formation can be observed around the engraving. Line engraving is also possible and results in a light matte effect.
