Transparent, coloured plastic with a high-quality finish and a shiny surface.

Acrylic is hard and relatively stiff, UV-protected and colour-fast.


Typical applications: Acrylic is used mainly for decorative purposes in the advertising industry, in consumer products and in models. It has a professional look and feel and does not require further finishing. Some examples of different applications include:
-façade advertisements
-product displays
-front panels of machines
-low-load mechanical components

Design: For most applications acrylic is an easy-to-use material with few issues. However, when connecting the material by means of slots or finger joints, it is important to take the thickness tolerance into account. The sheet thickness can vary by a few tenths of a millimetre; it is therefore advisable to design sufficiently large joints.
Acrylic is a brittle material; rather than becoming deformed, it will sooner split or break if the stresses are too high. To reduce the risk of splitting of stress-bearing components, inside corners can be rounded off. Flexible connections such as snap-locks and sninges can be made reliable, but must be designed in such a way that the internal stresses in the material do not become too great. Testing and optimising these features before actual production is a must.

Finishing: Finishing is usually not necessary because of the high quality finish the material has as standard. It is however extremely suitable for dyeing or printing on. Surfaces can be given a matte finish using fine sandpaper or by sandblasting.

Bonding: Adhesives can be used with acrylic, but solvent-based adhesives are not recommended for laser-cut parts. Acrylic can be easily attached or joined with double-sided adhesive film.

Appearance: Acrylic is particularly well suited for laser-cutting and the process leaves few traces. The cut edge becomes shiny and clear with no discolouration. As there is virtually no melting of the cut edge it is possible to cut fine details.
Surface engraving is possible and results in a matte white surface. The protective film is removed before surface engraving such that very minor smoke formation can be observed around the engraving. Line engraving is also possible and results in a clearly visible line.
