A tough, flexible and inexpensive plastic, known for its use in PET bottles.

Polyester can be bent into sharp corners without breaking, a quality usually associated with metals. The material offers good transparency but optically it is not as perfect as acrylic. The laser cut results in a melted edge of approximately 0.1 mm, making this material best suited for larger forms. Polyester is relatively soft such that can be cut with a Stanley knife.

Typical applications: As it can be folded, polyester is suitable for origami-like applications and for the prototyping of folding components. Thin polyester (0.8 and 0.5 mm) is also extremely well suited for making painting stencils. It does not absorb paint and it is transparent and easy to clean. It is used in model building as a cheaper alternative to acrylic, although acrylic remains superior for detailed work.

Appearance: Polyester is reasonably well suited to laser cutting. The laser cut is clear and does not discolour. A melted edge of approximately 0.1 mm can be observed along the cut on the underside.
Surface engraving is not possible with polyester. Line engraving is possible for larger forms, while small details create too much tension in the material.
